Its an acknowledgement of my own mortality and therefore to put things in order so that when I pass, my wishes will be executed easily. I have handled a few estate transitions. The intestate one was the most difficult, took the longest and resulted in a bunch of mental pain for all involved and serious inconvenience for some involved, it also cost a lot more in the way of fees, and resulted in ill feelings among all the beneficiaries as well as others involved. The trust one was the easiest and smoothest. The one with a will went smoothly but cost more in legal fees than was necessary. I don't want to leave an ambiguous mess for my heirs to clean up.
