See please the arguments against ethanol:

It will destroy the Amazon. No. I proved this alrady here with maps and everything.

It is not economic. (Pimentel fighting for oil money)

It destroys the top soil. (let me see soya didn;t wheat didn't, rice didn't)

It will kill the poorer countries with hunger (as if any guy drving an SUV would care about Burkina Fasso)

It's clearly an advocacy piece pushing one view, but a well written and researched one so it can't be dismissed easily.

IMHO, between top soil and fossil fuels, top soil will is the most valuable resource in the long run. A thousand years from now we will still be using the soil long after the age of fossil fuels is forgotten history. People will wonder why we wanted to exhaust the top soil and use food instead of using the inedible fossil fuels within easy reach to power our machines.
