I agree. I noted in my post that I use spot as the *starting point*. The quick back-of-the-envelope approach I use is to take 10% of the in-ground value as a (hopefully) intermediate term market cap. It's worked well for me, although I've been denounced as an idiot on SI once or twice as a result! <g>

But you've got to start somewhere, and the decision to invest sometimes has to be made in less than 24 hours. So you need some simple tools rather than a 100-page BFS. JMHO.
