Defending the NRA for this is a losing argument. The NRA has long been callous and indifferent to gun violence victims, using their excuse "guns don't kill people, people do". That is a phony excuse. The odds are that when you put hundrerds of thousands of automatic weapons in a stressed-filled society which has no real need for them, these kind of events will happen. There have been hundreds of not thousands of innnocent Americans killed in events like this, but what has the NRA ever done about it? Nothing. Even with Reagan was shot, theys snubbed their noses.

Why? because they're not really about gun safety, they're about profits for gun companies, and heavily arming rightwing white supremicist types like Timothy McVeigh. Those are their two dirty secrets.
