The wife of the oldest of 18 people charged in 2006 in an alleged plot to bomb Ontario targets alleges that someone fired bullets into the family's two vehicles on the weekend.

Cheryfa MacAulay Jamal held a press conference Monday to declare that she wouldn't be intimidated or silenced by whoever shot into the radiators of her minivan and her husband's car as they were parked outside their home in Mississauga, Ont.

"This act of terrorism committed against us will not deter me in my pursuit of justice," said Jamal. "I will continue to speak out in defence of my husband during his incarceration and during trial proceedings if I feel his rights have been compromised."

Jamal's husband, Qayyum Abdul Jamal, was 43 when he and the other suspects were arrested and charged under the federal Anti-terrorism Act. He is one of about a dozen suspects who have been held in solitary confinement since June 2006.

Jamal said she believed the shooting of the cars was in response to a recent newspaper article in which she criticized her husband's detention conditions.

She said publicizing the incident was the best way to protect herself and her four sons.

Police in Peel Region confirmed that they had a mischief complaint around 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, but released no other details.

In a high-profile case, police conducted a series of raids in Ontario in June 2006 that led to the arrest of 17 suspects, with an 18th arrest two months after the initial sweep.

Qayyum Abdul Jamal faces the most serious charge in the alleged plot — planning to cause a deadly explosion. Other charges laid against him include participating in the activities of and receiving training from a terrorist group.
