Oh, wow! I really thought we'd be in with a chance on a per capita basis, but we are way down the list. We do have a LOT of Maoris in gaol, but even so, we only get up to number 55. nationmaster.com About half of prisoners are Maori [depending on definitions of Maori] but only about 15% of the population is Maori.

If Maoris were as criminally-inclined as Japanese, we'd be down to 80 people per 100,000 in prison, which would still be above Japanese efforts. Pitiful effort. Thank goodness for Maoris.

I note though that the really nasty countries in which to live don't bother with prisons, don't have data, kill criminals or simply let them roam around. Or the data is bung.
