I agree. But one of the problems with a single, universal system is that questions of control and intrusiveness become important. Should the government meddle in life styles?

One way I would support universal socialized medicine is if it were left to each of the 50 states to devise there own system, rather than a single federal system. This would allow more variation, and better systems should emerge over time. Then the poorer performing ones can adopt the better practices.
