Here's a pretty good before and after view of WTC7 from the top.



From this perspective you can see how the street between WTC5 and WTC6 (which were both extensively damaged)left a path for the debris to hit right on the corner of WTC7. That street would have acted like a funnel. You can even see how the debris punched right through WTC7 and damaged the building behind it, exactly in line with the street.
