Thanks for selling my three microcap biotechs Elroy--and now I'm not even sure I want to keep my Officemax short. Thestreet.com has an article "Safely Going Short" By Jennifer Openshaw But suppose you short highflier OfficeMax for $53. OMX has doubled in a year, and you can't see why it should have, with Office Depot Staples around every corner. However--the article goes on to list these dangers: Unlimited downside risk Requires a margin account and borrowing shares on margin Lender is reimbursed for dividends If it's an individual stock, you can guess the market right and still lose Here is the url, which looks funky and may not work: thestreet.com Anyway, here is my disclaimer: I've never shorted a stock in my life and cannot even say whether I was in an Officemax or an Office Depot the other day when this short idea came up. I do know it was across the street from a CompUSA which was going out of business. fwiw, Officemax often has good deals on refurbished HP printers. Who here thinks I should cover the OMX short while I'm only a couple percent in the hole?
