Yes, the rebellion faltered due to lack of Shia support.

What is unsaid is Sadr withdrew to Iran as soon as the surge began. 600-700 top ranking guys in his militia arrested by US and Iraqi military. His group is in disarray. His time may have passed.

Oh yeah, the above doesn't mention his groups responsibility for the murder of several rival clerics.
