"We never locked cars... walked to and from school... no buses and that was for miles."

Four miles in the snow, up hill both ways. ;-)

did you ever think that our country would come to a point where students had to think of carrying a fire arm ?

I had a license to carry my last two years at San Diego State, '56 to '58. Owned a 1911, 22 Hi-Standard and a 38 S&W. I enjoyed target shooting in El Cajon. The guns were always in the trunk of my 53 Buick Roadmaster Convertable [loved that car].

I read a lot of comment about how dangerous it would be for College students to have guns. Well, they have cars and alcohol, which are one hell of a lot more dangerous. And a lot of them are doing dope and hooking up every weekend. There is an urge to wrap people up in cotton batting to protect them. Won't work.

I shake my head at the knee-jerk reaction here that "nobody should have a gun." We live in a dangerous world, and thinking otherwise can get you killed. As we saw yesterday. We also saw yesterday the insanity of believing the police are here to protect you. They aren't. That's not their job. They are here to try to catch the bad guy AFTER he hurts you.

I am not advocating that everybody be forced to walk about heeled. And we will never know what would have happened if one of those students had a gun in their briefcase. But prohibiting them from even having a chance to defend themselves is criminal, IMO.
