When corporations get scared, they start throwing money at the problems that scare them. I was able to exploit this several times during my careers as a software engineer and a consultant, once getting a raise equal to 50% of my current salary, and charging outlandish hourly rates as a consultant.

The top guy at Ford is just doing the same, in a league beyond MY wildest dreams..
