The kids that were proactive and blocked entry by barricading the door were saved. Why this occurred to so few is a bit of a mystery to me. At any rate if the classrooms have stout windowless doors as this place appears to have had it seems we need to train teachers to instantly barricade themselves inside the classroom when we have a nut job walking the halls. Now we need some way to tell them to do that.

I think it was Lindy that mentioned earlier that the aftermath of everyone of these disasters the one common link seems to be communication problems. Probably the cheapest and easiest thing to fix and obviously the most ignored.

Better to buy bomb sniffing armored humvee's for your sheriff to ride around in as we did here.

you just keep missing the point, don't you?

you don't 'lockdown' 2600 acres...you *declare* a lockdown....doing so gives proper weight to the potential threat

what you do is give fair warning to the people on campus so that they can take evasive action, meaning locking themselves down

frankly i don't understand your apologist attitude for the gross negligence that went on here and do not care to spend my time disabusing you of your naivete' as exemplified by this:

I can't imagine the school officials wanted this to happen.

put that statement right up with the totally disingenuous remark yesterday by the police chief about not being able to have armed security at every room on the university....AS IF it is relevant to the botched manner in which they responded to the crisis
