Re the speculation here that his apparent premeditation (several loaded ammo clips on a chest strap, chains and padlocks, etc.) implies some reasoned motive, political or otherwise, instead of a psychotic break, consider this from a 2000 Chicago Sun-Times special report on school shootings, citing research done by the US Secret Service:

"The researchers found that killers do not 'snap'. They plan. They acquire weapons. They tell others what they are planning. These children take a long, considered, public path toward violence."
