I had a period of 3 years where the docs thought I had chrons disease. I was in pain 24 hours per day - nasty pain - like passing a stone. I was taking 4-6 per day for almost 3 years. When we finally found the cause (gall bladder) we took care of it and I went off the vicodin. Initially it was hard but within 4 weeks it was fine. I was REALLY worried about it being a narcotic but it just wasn't that bad. I think the OXY stuff is probably much more addictive

I was on Vicodin for a blown c6-c7 disc in my neck. After doing a little digging, I found the miracle drug (in my opinion)--Neurontin. Originally formulated to treat epilepsy, it has also been found to be effective for nerve pain. And most of all, it's non-narcotic. I call it a "miracle" because while it took pretty hefty doses of Vicodin to make life bearable before, Neurontin kicks the pain's butt and I don't feel foggy at all when taking it.
