Sure. Consider how many posters on the various boards are openly Fascist. And then there are those who are pushing for a theocracy. I hesitate to say it, but I don't think this country has been under more anti-democratic pressure in it's history. Even with the Red Scare of the late 40s and 50s or even the Great Depression, I don't think the drumbeat to totalitarianism has ever been stronger.

I think you are correct. But it has grown beyond that hard core. And the reason why the issue hasn't been addressed is because a presidential candidate needs a growing pile of money to run for election. They can't alienate any group with money, it'd kill their chances. So the problem gets swept under the rug.
