Other startups lucky enough to be taken out at an early stage find themselves becoming absorbed ever so quietly into the fabric of the acquirer, never to be heard from again.

An exception to that seems to be the UTube team. I was reading an entry on his blog by a Google Exec who was sent over to work with them. He said the secret of the company, besides the two owners, was that they were able to pull in the members of their old team from their PayPal/Ebay days as they grew quickly. Since they all knew each other, it was much easier to for them to absorb the knowledge necessary for growing the startup.
