War is usually good for an economy so long as the war is in some other country.

It may raise GDP, but GDP isn't a perfect measure of the strength, growth, or general well being of an economy. It "helps" the economy in the same way breaking windows does -

Having said that, I want the war ended because it means less Americans dying even if it results in a weakened economy.

It would mean a slightly stronger economy, and less Americans dieing (at least for now), but it would mean a lot more Iraqi's dieing and more long term problems.
