China increasing use of speedy trains By CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer
Wed Apr 18, 5:49 PM ET

Faster Chinese trains running at about 125 mph began service Wednesday as part of a bid to keep up with ballooning transport demand, state media reported.

What I wouldn't do to have fast trains in this country. To go from LA to San Diego it takes Amtrak 4 hours. In France, the same distance would take a little over an hour; in China, a little under 2 hours.

All through the '90s Amtrak did everything it could to improve service so that it would get new passengers even as Congress would tie up their funding, forcing them to work with one arm tied behind their backs. Amtrak got the fares on the LA/San Diego paying for nearly 85% of the operating expenses..........an amazing feat in any country. And still Congress complained. As it turns out, it was the f'cking GOPers who were reducing Amtrak's budget every year.......these ignorant, backwards, uneducated parasites didn't think trains were worth the bother and so complained profusely about the $900 million spent on trains when they would authorize billions upon billions for pork and defense.

And now, Bush is trying to kill Amtrak completely. Man, do I hate the suckers!
