Where is the refutation of the way the Heritage lays it out? I can't find one. Just a Dem, "we want price controls." You challanged me to find the evidence. I gave it to you. You are sure there are refutations. Can you show me one?

Let's back up a moment, Bill. The post you clipped this small bit from made several points. I'm going to expand a bit.

First, here's the full quote from which you took your clip.

"The Heritage Foundation document is clearly one side of an argument; no doubt there are refutations of the details of this argument from others. Moreover, the Heritage Foundation also is an ideologically based center which it acknowledges. All the more reason to watch the debate which will now ensue."

My intent was to say an answer to the Heritage argument will emerge in upcoming debate; not that there was one present at the moment. The effect of your post on me is to call my attention to this issue. My reading will certainly now be colored by your question.

Second, I saw nothing in that piece that suggested the Heritage argument went to a structural component, something that would have been a deal breaker. The arguments look to be about elements that should be addressed in good legislation. Again, to echo point one above, I have some new questions.

Third, it's clear from what's now happening that the drug lobby is up and running on this issue in playoff form. The consumer groups et al will get repped up over the weeks ahead. Then we'll see what happens.

And, finally, fourth, the fact the Heritage Foundation sees these issues as deal breakers goes to its ideological commitments, even rigid ones; not to its serious interest in policy questions.
