Women block road to protest power outage

By our correspondent
GHALANAI: Hundreds of infuriated women and children Wednesday blocked the main Peshawar-Bajaur road to protest against the non-availability of electricity in their area.

They protestors also staged a sit-in on the main road at Pir Qilla and warned of converting their peaceful protest into a violent one if the supply of electricity was not restored by Thursday (today).

They threatened to throw away all the mobile towers and electricity poles in the area if the government failed to restore the electricity. It would be better to die on the road instead of seeing their children dying of heat inside the houses, they threatened.

Tehsil Nazim Mohamamd Ishfaq Khan also announced to stage a sit-in in front of the Wapda chief house along with the people of the 25 disputed villages of Mohmand Agency that were included in Charsadda district. Supporting the protestors, District Nazim Naseer Mohamamd Khan assured them that the electricity supply would be restored today.
