The controversy over female circumcision has nothing to do with the Quran.

That's not what the practitioners of it have to say. They say it is Islamic, and they have a right to react violently to those who criticise it.

The interpretation of Islam that says lying and violent intimidation of critics is permissable or even required of believers is widespread, as this case shows. It's hardly the first case, as Ayaan Hirsi can tell you.
