I don't think that's true. The big police force chiefs might be for gun control, but I believe most rank and file cops are against it (or at least against strong versions of it).

*The statistics on crime and especially murder are at least partially influenced by an aging population.

And by changes in the economy, and by many other factors. I've never claimed that changes in gun control laws are the only factor, only that there isn't any real evidence that gun control laws do any good in terms of reducing violent crime in general, or assault or murder with guns in particular.

The ones that carry without permits are the scary ones.

Their already breaking the law. Probably more than one. Is making them break 8 laws instead of 6 really going to make a difference?
