Yes, that could be true. There are people that could be helped if you get to them soon enough, but he may have been too far gone. Who knows how he would have turned out if he'd gotten help earlier; I think it works in some cases, but not in others (e.g. extreme sociopaths).

Maybe part of the answer is identifying isolated kids earlier. Seems he was picked on severely in lower grades...maybe if he'd been identified for counseling earlier..but we'll never know.
