That's why it's inane to think that Iraq is about getting their oil. Iraq's prewar output was worth less than $100 billion a year; we spend more than that on supposedly trying to "get" the oil we could have bought on the free market for less.

The WOT only holds up because it is spun in a "we will all die" context that strives to defy rational cost calculation. As rational policy, it makes little or no sense as a long-term policy.

It only exists today because the incumbents are saying we can't do anything less or we perish. Very melodramatic rhetoric.
