And its still lower than it was in 2001, or 2002, and probably lower than it was in 2003. The 2005 data showed only a very slight increase in the violent crime rate

The 2006 data is preliminary and isn't on the chart yet, and doesn't include the crime rate data (only total number of crimes). The data is rather sparse or not all of it is presented yet, and such preliminary figures are often revised. Also its only for the first half of 2006. Its hardly enough to base a claim that the general trend to lower crime rates have stopped.
