The NRA continues fighting for assault weapons of all kinds including fully automatic weapons. Since they know the public isn't ready for the Rambo lifestyle, they are now concentrated on making concealed weapons permits legal in every state, even if thousands of insane and felonious people get them, banning the Brady Bill common sense guidelines, pushing the Castle Law, which allows you to shoot anyone who "threatens" you anywhere you want, making sure background checks are minimal and waiting periods non-existent, arming teachers in our schools, and fighting to promote cop-killer bullets and banana clips for semi-automatic rifles. Those are totally not for hunting anything but humans, by the way. All of the above are pretty much insane and totally extreme. None of them are needed in the least.
