I agree that, in the abstract, exchange rates are important.

But the bottom line is, how much more do you have to pay for what you need? And are there reasonable substitutes?

Example: suppose a 12-pack of white sports socks from China costs $3 a pack, and then it goes up to $4 a pack (which it hasn't yet) -- that's less than five cents a sock.

And that's on a 33% exchange rate increase.

It sucks to be a manufacturer of white sports socks in America, but it doesn't suck to be a purchaser of white sports socks, yet.
