Somewhere there may be a good study of the effects of permissive concealed gun carrying laws. But the one's I've seen to date are fundamentally methodologically flawed. Guy by the name of Lott that the right wing types quote. I don't know if anyone has done it properly.

I think the difference is probably that there are far more illegal guns in California than in Iowa. I don't have figures to support that at hand, but I've seen them in the past.

I would think that most of the murders in California occur in gang-infested areas like East L.A. and South Central L.A.(Watts); though sometimes when blacks or latinos are killed they are not counted.
