Israelis never get to dictate terms, even after 1967, when they crushingly won a defensive war. Other countries could have dictated a peace, but rules are different for Israel.

The reason I said that was because, in 67, the Soviets were in the way, and we were in no position to help, with Vietnam going on. Plus, Johnson had no use for Israel.

Times have changed. If Syria started it, the world could scream, but could do nothing if Bush backed them. I think he would.

In the 1967 war, other countries intervened on behalf of the Muslims. We need a clear statement from Britain, the US and France, that any territory Israel takes will be Israels to deal with, and that they will not ask Israel to do things like stop at Suez this time.
