many other gun users are not. Why should you set the standard?

The numbers prove otherwise - with 100's of millions of guns in the USA and millions of owners - if even 1% were irresponsible there would be way more incidents of violence. The fact the numbers are so low and caused by such a small number of people speaks volumes as to the legal gun owners maturity. This Cho guy, although a legal owner, is the exception to the rule - generally the offender has no right to own guns in the first place.

Give me a break....how many accidental shootings happen each year during hunting season, how many kids get into their parents guns and shoot themselves, how many crimes of passions occur when an otherwise normal, mature individual loses it and kills his/her significant other; how many times are guns stolen and sold to criminal elements. They just had to lock down Federal Way high school because a kid broke into a state trooper's house and stole his guns. He stole them so he could sell them on the black market. When you are the biggest producers of guns in the world, you are bound to have too many people with guns who shouldn't have guns.

Violence begats violence!

Oh right.......the strawman

We license cars and test - don't you get behind that one? :-)

If only the testing of gun owners was as rigorous as the fairly light testing of drivers and cars..........

Wrong. The NRA supports guns for the insane and dangerous extremists. The only stipulation they want put on anyone is a prior criminal record. That means nobody doesn't get a gun since criminals don't go to gun shops to get their weapons. So everyone and anyone gets a gun in the USA per the NRA with no waiting period. It could be a suicidal wacko just out of the mental institute. He gets all the guns he wants per the NRA. No problemo.

Then when the wacko murders the NRA says there should have been more guns in that town so people could have played vigilante and shot the wacko before he shot someone else. It's an escalating sycle of insane violence. Where does it end, Road Warrior? Do we all have to be heavily armed in the NRA's America to survive?

What an insane and pathetic kind of country that would be.
