Well, unfortunately for them, this war against Jihadism is going to last long past the next election and probably into the next. This isn't just about Bush.. It's about what this country actually stands for. Do we stand for confronting oppression and tyranny where we find it (or at the very least where our vital national interests are at stake), or do we just sit back and permit ourselves to stand guilty of permitting millions to be subjugated to the designs of those who would dominate them? And something else.. Since Afghanistan is enduring the same kind of insurgency that Iraq is (although on a lower level), do we pull up stakes there as well? Are we admitting that Al Qai'da has more willpower than we do? If so, I can practically guarantee this will only emboldened the leadership of the Jihadists (as well as their "silent supporters" who haven't yet taken up arms). They will wave their black AQ flag everywhere and take credit for making the "American Crusaders" withdraw from their muslim lands. And then they will resume their plotting to spread their Jihadist ideas througout the region in hopes of bringing down the fragile (and inherently corrupt and illegimate) regimes throughout the region. And they think the US credibility is low now? It will PLUNGE in the eyes of those who are looking for someone to support them against the Islamist forces arrayed against them. Once again, the US will be seen as a unreliable partner who will abandon it's friends when the going gets rough. And that being said, only our presence in the region will hold out any hope of having a counter-influence that "motivates" these regimes we're currently protecting to become more accountable and legitimate in the eyes of their own people. If we're not involved in the "game", we don't get to make any of the rules. Hawk
