I used that same setup to avoid lines to the computer room at college and finish my projects. I had an amber monitor as it was way cool compared to green. :-)

I was a geek from early childhood. I was indeed "there."

No way was the Internet ever going to take off on its own via ASCII graphics, non-WYSIWYG text editors (remember edlin?), 300 baud modems, etc.

It was different. I don't get all nostalgic over the Elf II or the Sinclair. The joys of hex keypads and PEEKs, POKEs and storing programs on audio tape...

I do remember getting on the Internet, well, Usenet. My very first post is preserved on Google. 23 years ago...

Oddly enough, it also is my only post from those days. It was to net.jokes where I pointed out the state treasurer of Texas for many years was a man by the name of Jesse James.

I'd have preferred it if some of my other posts had made it. But...
