Rose, Different country, different culture, I suppose. My kids are both crack shots and advanced martial arts students. I figure that in their lifetime those will be useful skills. But I think I see another even larger cultural divide. You mean to tell me that your son wouldn't treasure a bequest from a dear uncle, no matter what it was? He wouldn't have to shoot the thing or go brandish it about, he could keep it unloaded and without ammo hidden in a drawer or cupboard somewhere, as a remembrance of his departed uncle. That is a very "European" attitude, where a political belief about something overcomes personal sentiment. In many ways we Americans have much more in common with our Mexican neighbors to the south than we do with the folks above our northern border. The reason this struck me as strange is that three years ago I lost my brother very unexpectedly and my son just treasures every single thing that belonged to his uncle, who he adored. And Asians are even more sentimental than Americas about this kind of thing. Much more. Slagle
