"Algore created the Internet. Is that better?"

No.

During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection

As the Snopes article points out, this is similar to Eisenhower creating the Interstate system. No one would argue with that claim, it is true on the face of it. Yet, outside of that one, symbolic shovelful of dirt, Ike didn't do much actual construction.

"Seems the same thing to me. Create and invent are synonyms."

Again, as the Snopes article points out, if that is true, then why do all of his attackers use the word 'invent' instead of what he said? There are connotations that his detractors are trying to exploit. For spin purposes, lying about what he said advances their agenda.

Steve, I wonder if any of our fellow liberals (or whatever they want to call themselves) will defend Sheryl Crow the same way they defended the "inventor/creator" of the Internet.

"We don't think, as some people have argued, that Sheryl Crow really asked us to walk around with dirty asses."

By the way, I wonder who still wants to shake Sheryl Crow's hand.
