Like many debates on SI, each side is focusing on the side of the issue that interests them the most, leading to a situation where each side claims victory and thinks the other is an idiot for not seeing it their way.

You are both right in your own way, IMHO, if that helps.

Elroy
if the "center" is the majority, then we need to go with lost, or "losing":

washingtonpost.com

12/11/06 is the Us winning
winning 34%
losing 56%

washingtonpost.com

to the question will the US win eventually:

win 34 lose 46

tie 11

Center? Who knows. Majority, clearly

Oh, don't be so amazed, Elroy. Many of us just love to debate these issues.

You argue well and without personal attacks. So, without speaking for anyone else, it gets my thinking juices flowing. Good for the aging brain.

The inability to fess up to that says something about the people here - are they really "the center"?

So what you're asking is, "Why won't you all be reasonable and see it my way?"

I've seen more evidence of clear, logical thinking and a willingness to see the other person's POV from the regulars here than from any other thread on SI.

You might want to consider dropping the deceit of superiority that you seem to carry.

Elroy -

Do you think people in "the center" all see every issue the same way?

That's beside the point anyway. I don't see any person on this thread claiming to be in the center. That's the title of the thread, but if you read the header you'll see that people are not required to be in the center in order to post here.

I would call myself a liberal. And for the record, that doesn't mean that I agree with everything every other self-professed liberal thinks or says.
