Addressing your other 2 points differentiating NAFTA and EU (sorry got called up in some calls re work) :

- NATO was in existence well before EU was a concept

- You need some form of govt issued ID to travel between and within EU countries even if you are a EU member country citizen. You call it Passport, they call it Govt ID. whats the diff ?
