Motion sickness is funny. You can go to sleep and you will get over it and get up and perhaps never be sick again. I've been in 40' seas and didn't have any ill effect yet got seasick in 3' seas. And only once, no idea why.

Altitude sickness is similar. I have a buddy who set out to climb Mt. Rainier (14,000+ summit) with a buddy.

My friend is Mr. Physical Activity. Rides bikes, works out, jogs, etc.

His buddy was Mr. Beer swilling good-times guy. Tremendously out of shape.

My buddy came down with a crushing headache and altitude sickness at 11,000 feet.

Mr. Beer Belly made it to the top and down with no problems.

Go figure.
