Ichy, I knew that you don't think of yourself as a lefty, and I admit to taunting you with the accusation. But statists want solution such as yours.

It's a market. Those working at car companies which are doing a bad job will have to get new jobs working at a Toyota factory where they do know how to run a railroad, so to speak.

But, since Toyota does know how to run a railroad, the redundant people will have to get a job somewhere else. Guarding the Mexican border might be within their skill levels. Or, they could get a job checking and loading bags so I get zero delay when I want to go on an aircraft at LAX and can show up 20 minutes before the flight leaves.

It doesn't take 20 minutes to get on a bus at a bus stop, so I don't see why it takes 3 hours at an airport stop. Sure, there's a bit of luggage to put on, but with proper check in, security processes, documentation checks, baggage handling, negligible carry-on and proper pricing, aircraft would spend minutes waiting around, not hours.
