As fiber optic and satellite technology comes on line the copper wire lines and equipment become more of a hindrance than a help to modern telecom businesses. As up and coming superpowers develop nuclear capability they are doing so with modern safe guards that we didn't have when we built our stuff. How much of ours is protected by deep bunker infrastructure?

I've just listened to TV reports that show nuclear facilities above ground. They've also mentioned facilities that we're not sure we can reach even with bunker busters. A nuke is a last resort type of weapon. We're not there yet with Iran.
