I agree with you. Both that tricore makes sense (at least if there are a sufficient number of 1 bad core quad core chips), and that AMD probably won't do it.

If Intel did it first, AMD marketing would copy it immediately. But AMD marketing is very shy about trying new concepts, without prior Intel "approval" of the concept.
