Yes, state law or city code. I'm looking at the codebook from my old Georgia hometown and I don't see a thing about knives. I had suspected there would be an ordinance about "switch blades" probably dating from the 1940's or 1950's but there is not a single thing.

There are some really humorous ordinances dating from around 1900 dealing with "Alabama Slings" (sling shots, I suppose), "brickbats", "firing crackers", "bagatelle tables", and riding horses at a gallop on the city streets. But not a single word about knives. This codebook is nearly twenty years old so there may be some recent additions.
