One time I got pulled aside because there was pepper spray in my day pack. I'd thrown it in there the last time I went camping in Yellowstone in case I had any bear problems, and forgot it was in there. They confiscated it, and grilled me, but let me on the plane.

It seems to me that its one thing to forget pepper spray and another to forget a gun. Part of the problem is that people get as cavalier about guns as they do pepper spray or even deodorant.
