Mindmeld, > So if we had a plug-in hybrid that gets 50 miles on electric and switches to the gas engine thereafter, for a combined avg of 100 mpg, how would that restrict freedoms?

I'm sorry, what were we talking about again? Electric cars or hybrids?

I love hybrid technology. Always have, always will. "Plug-in" hybrids are simply hybrids with batteries that can hold a charge well in excess of what's necessary for current gas-powered hybrids.

On the other hand, pure electric cars just don't get the range. California tried pushing them years ago, only to find out what a boondoggle that was.
