Gere didn't give her "a peck on the cheek" and a hug. He grabbed her and wrestled her over backwards into the traditional submissive pose and gave her a cheek kiss. She was floundering around and didn't know what to do, so, as one does, makes light of things, laughs, and started straight away to minimize the situation. Then he made his silly grand bowing gesture. I'd call it an innocent cultural clash which civilized people accept happens at times and they politely smooth over. They don't get all up in arms over it. Maybe India could nuke Pakistan to even things up [Pakistan being a USA ally]. Mqurice
