Murtha has a good suggestion. Call Bush's bluff. Fund the war up until the point where Bush says we must let the surge work. 2-3 months, then since the surge won't be working by then, Bush will have no choice but to admit failure, or come up with some other cockamamie idea.

The reason Dems tread lightly is that as you can see, the Bushie rightwing's main BS weapon is to try and cast Dems as "weak on defense". I'm not sure that will work again, but it did work in 2002 for sure and a little too much in 2004. This is becoming not just about Iraq and saving our troops lives, but about 2008 too. We can't let the GOP hold onto the White House. That would be disasterous.
