Iktomi, I don't know if you've ever read any posts by Unclewest. He's a special forces veteran with very, very conservative views but he's smart and he doesn't ignore the facts. I can assure you that Nadine, Jlallen and many of the pro war posters know exactly who he is and hold him in high esteem, as do I, (but undoubtedly for different reasons.)

In the past he's had some misgivings about the Iraq operation but he wasn't openly critical. It was interesting to read this post from him....maybe a sign of the times in terms of our military's thinking?

..."Thanks for the comments.

It reflects the views of those who have a life-time of experience in UW. The rest are hard to convince, but we work on it.
Some of us have hooked up and formed an organization and web site.

Veteransofspecialforces.org
(AKA VSF)

Our information and education campaign is well underway at the highest levels of our government. And we know our message is getting through because our members are now being invited back for additional consultations.

The problems with the current war are unnerving to POLS because they are finally beginning to understand this war needs a political solution and it needs it yesterday. The POLS desperately want a military solution to fix it, but we believe it is too late for that. Nevertheless some POLS are still hanging on the little glimmer of hope that Petreaus seems to offer. They will learn. Petreaus will let them learn too because he made his end goal of 4 stars. He can now look for another career.

Making it more difficult is that the POLS must simultaneously redirect the priorities of our military and begin to prepare for the next battles. That too will not be easy because the Pentagon prefers to plan for the last war...or at least use the last war's tactics in planning for the next. They did that for this one and doing that again will only lead to another failure.

VSF has several new initiatives nearly ready to fly and more on the drawing board. We have miles to go before we sleep."
