The most important thing a poster here owns is their reputation. If they make unsupported assertations and don't respond in a logical manner to them, they are soon ignored by the SI community and become outcasts. We all know some of them.

I would submit that it's not about supported assertions or logical presentation. SI posts, in general, are conspicuous for a dearth of support and logic. The salient factor seems to be whether the assertions are conforming or not. Those who are outcasts in one sub-community generally find a supportive or at least accepting one somewhere else where their unsupported assertions and illogic resonate. One of the characteristics of the various sub-communities is mistaking their biases for logic and their ramblings for support.
