Euterpe and I have talked about this a great deal. We both made sacrifices when we decided to stay home. Most of my friends from law school live in Mc Mansions- we opted for a little condo, and later a smallish house in the suburbs- that we could afford. We didn't take trips. We didn't go out to eat. We drove really really old cars :-) My husband was working, at the time, far below his skill level. Because he was as committed to his children being raised by his wife, as I was commited to raising them, he went back to school at night, after working a full day, and got a better degree, and started earning a heck of a lot more money- and we were lucky.

But even if we were still in a condo, I think my husband and I would both agree the sacrifices are worth it. Does everyone? Obviously not. I am sorry for people who want to stay home and cannot EVEN if they made sacrifices. I think that must be a deep sadness for people. I disagree with the priorities of people who could stay home but choose not to- and I am pretty sure Euterpe feels the same way.
