You are unaware that state schools are largely supported by taxpayer money- -particularly when she went through? You think a few hundred bucks a year covers the full cost of a university education? Which school is THAT?How is that a misuse? Do you mean because it's a state university? I went to UVa. for grad school. Does getting an education from a state U. imply some kind of obligation? Did you miss: 'Or is she REALLY stupid enough to think taxpayers pony up just to make her a "better person"'?We get our educations as preparation for life. True. Lawyers become lawyers for preparation for life as lawyers. I believe JLA or Alan Smithee or mph can verify this. Among many others. (You can hardly swing a post around here without hitting a lawyer, :-)No one knows exactly what that life will be, what demands will be made, where we will end up. When you are 18 years old, you do the best you can to predict what might make you happy and provide a secure future. No one knows if he or she will marry, have children, end up the sole breadwinner, or stay at home. Gee, I guess some of us are better at this than others. The above mentioned are examples. I spent my entire career working in my field of choice in college. Also, Iktomi was fully employed as an attorney after graduation-- not an intern. I;m not sure where you got the intern idea. A little birdy told me. Perhaps the birdy misheard. I do owe her an apology for my remarks in that case. I hardly see this excuses the wasting of hundreds of thousands of dollars of this state's money, though. I thought that was Grey Davis's job. I have always known she worked after graduation and where. Where? (Yeah, like I expect an answer to THAT! :-) She worked, as I did, had babies and stopped working, as I did, and then she did sub work, and got her teaching cert, and taught, as I in my own way did, working it around the children's schedule. Did you note I specifically excluded you from my remarks?I don't understand this arbitrary placing of valuation on lives, as if we can measure anyone's objectively. It seems extremely counterproductive. I can understand having anger or indignation about things, but not the way it is sometimes expressed around here. How do you think anger should be expressed? By crawling off into a corner and crying? Would that have been the proper way to express this country's anger at Pearl Harbor and 911?
